Chapter 51 Lance kept his eyes fixed on his book while seated on the couch. Tara, standing in the middle of the room, didn't elicit a response from him, which only heightened her nerves. She couldn't pinpoint why she felt uneasy, but her instincts warned her that Lance was a dangerous man. After a moment, Lance finally lifted his gaze slowly. Placing his book on the coffee table, he leaned back against the couch with crossed legs, exuding elegance.
His hands rested on his thighs, and he fixed his calm, piercing gaze on Tara. Avoiding his eyes, Tara was about to speak when Lance solemnly questioned, "Why did you instruct Stella to send it?" "I have specific responsibilities with Stella. She attends to you and Mr. Pearson, while I look after Mr. Wilhelm and Mr. Farrell. That's why I informed her of your request for a glass of milk this morning," Tara replied, keeping her eyes downcast. Lance remained silent upon hearing her explanation.
Meanwhile, Tara trembled slightly under his unwavering stare. His calm gaze felt eerie, and she hoped he wouldn't pursue the matter further. However, Lance broke the silence, declaring, "I am serious. I want you to be my girlfriend." His words carried a weight that could drive someone mad. Tara, taken aback by his proposal, involuntarily stepped back in shock. Despite her horror, she composed herself, trying to push Lance's words out of her mind.

But they lingered like an explosion, making it hard for her to maintain her composure. Lance continued to gaze at her, seemingly enjoying her reaction. After a moment, Tara mustered her courage and said, "Mr. Swain, the incident in the sunroom was a mistake. You don't have to take responsibility. It was my fault for grabbing your hand in my dreams." Lance's expression darkened as he recalled the numerous dreams he had.
Tara was taken aback by his next words, as his voice grew hoarse, "You're right. I should take full responsibility for you." Tara quickly rejected his offer, waving her hands, "There's no need for that, Mr. Swain. I'm just a housekeeper, and you deserve someone better." Lance interrupted, "Stop underestimating yourself. I like you for who you are." Realizing that he was serious, Tara's fingers trembled.
She took a deep breath to steady herself and declined his proposal, "I'm not ready for a relationship at the moment." Unfazed, Lance persisted, "There's no rush. Take your time to consider it." Tara, feeling overwhelmed, shook her head, "I have already thought it through. I cannot reciprocate your feelings." Despite Tara's reluctance, Lance remained determined.
He instructed, "Starting tomorrow, bring a glass of warm milk to my room every morning." Tara thought it was finally over and breathed a sigh of relief, "Alright, Mr. Swain."
