Lance tightened his arms around her and carried her into the bedroom. By the time Tara realized what was happening and tried to resist, he had already crossed the room and shut the door behind them. ---- He set her down, but she found herself pinned against the door by him.

He lightly traced her cheek with his left hand, his voice a gentle murmur in her ear. "When I was drunk that day, was it you that I had pinned?" There's nothing to say." Lance lowered his eyes and kissed her as he spoke. He said, "I'm sorry." The apology came out low and husky, sounding more seductive than remorseful, but some of his emotions still came through. Lance kissed her again. She was too embarrassed. She thought of Soren and realized she was in a tough spot.

At this rate, she might not even make it through the next three months. So she started wondering if she should use Lance to escape both the original story's ending and her current situation. ---- "What you just said... give me a couple of more days to think about it," she said. Lance seemed pleased. He wasn't going to let Tara stay surrounded by hungry men circling her. He said softly, "Good girl." Tara, however, had a different plan.

Once she escaped the original plot, she wouldn't work at Swain Corp or move in with Lance. She intended to leave him.
