Chapter 28 Soren was briefly surprised. Tara was acting completely differently from before. Had she really figured things out, or was this just another move in a push-pull game? Stella had taken over the task of delivering milk to Lance, and she didn't believe for a second that Tara wouldn't be mad. After all, she had just snatched away Tara's chance to get close to the two gentlemen. She was waiting for Tara to show some irritation so she could use it as ammunition to make a scene.
That way, Lance and Soren could see Tara's true colors again. But when Stella turned to look, Tara's expression didn't change. She was still smiling politely. "If there's nothing else, I'll head off for the day," said Tara. With that, Tara turned and left quickly. She wanted nothing more than to be done with them. This time, Soren and Lance didn't try to stop her. Stella had her performance all ready. But Tara just walked away, leaving her stuck there awkwardly.
She was seething with frustration she couldn't show. She couldn't believe Tara had left like that. Wasn't she mad about losing the chance to get close to Lance? That wasn't the Tara she knew. Stella figured Tara must be up to something. Lance didn't take his eyes off Tara's retreating figure. He didn't say anything, but the small shift in his expression gave away his displeasure. Without a word, he headed for the elevator. Stella wanted to say something to him, but he was already gone.
Soren looked at Stella with a half-smile. "Nice job." Stella hadn't expected praise from him and gave a shy nod. Soren didn't stick around. He strode after Lance and threw an arm around the latter's shoulder while consoling him. "Lance, Stella sticks to you like glue, isn't it perfect that she's the one who'll bring you your milk tomorrow?

As far as I remember, you couldn't stand Tara." Lance ignored him, but Soren remained unfazed as he pressed on with a puzzled tone, "But when do you drink hot milk first thing in the morning?" It was usually something he had with breakfast. Lance stayed silent, clearly not in the best mood. Late at night, Lance stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window while looking out into the dark sky. He couldn't help but laugh quietly.
The irritation he'd felt when Soren had pushed Tara away had mostly faded. Downstairs, Tara was exhausted after the long day and went back to her room. Though barely able to keep her eyes open, she showered first before going to sleep with the comforter wrapped around her. At dawn, Tara pushed a cart into the pool area. Soren, who was wearing a robe, was already standing at the pool's edge. As soon as she showed up, his earlier lazy disinterest shifted - he now looked amused.
Tara paused in surprise when she saw him. It was still early, yet he was already there. "Morning, Mr. Fennell," she greeted softly. Soren said nothing. He just smiled as he watched her approach him. Tara knew how he liked to mess with her wits about her work, quietly laying out towels and drinks for him. Walking over to her slowly, Soren asked, "Why did you turn down Jasper?" Tara blinked, trying to remember who that was. Then, she recalled - It was the man who picked up her spoon at the party.
Why were Soren and Lance both asking about this? Was it really that shocking that she said no? She looked up at Soren. Her thoughts were full of confusion. "I have nothing in common with all of you, Mr. Walker, or the other man at that party who asked for my number. We're from completely different worlds." She said exactly what she believed. Soren stared at her for a while, then clicked his tongue. So, she really had made up her mind. "Why do you think that way?" Soren asked.
A little while ago, she was still trying to flirt with Lance. And now she suddenly had it all figured out? Tara thought for a moment before answering, "Because I realized that in a cold person's world, there's ambition, simplicity, luck, and perseverance-but not just escaping the tale I'd been written into was already a blessing." She stood as firm as possible. Tara had never dared to demand cruising paths with wealthy and powerful men. If anything, she wanted to stay as true to herself as possible.
