Chapter 50 Lance glanced at Shawn before slowly releasing Tara. When he had grasped her earlier, he had a strong urge to keep her in his grasp and tease her. "Hello, Mr. Wilhelm," Tara greeted Shawn before avoiding Lance's gaze and quickly retreating to her room. Lance clenched his right hand, which had grabbed her wrist earlier, feeling the numbness spreading through his body.
Meanwhile, Shawn, oblivious to Lance's interest in Tara, asked, "Why are you upset with her?" Lance looked away, concealing his emotions, and replied casually, "It's nothing." Seeing that Lance was not willing to discuss it further, Shawn decided to drop the subject and invited, "I've composed something new. Come upstairs and have a listen." After returning to her room, Tara examined her slightly swollen and red wrist from Lance's grip. She couldn't believe that he was serious the day before.
Puzzled by his actions, she doubted his intentions, especially the idea of him falling in love with her. Their interactions had been minimal in the past, except for the incident in the sunroom when Lance was intoxicated, and she had helped him back to his room. She recalled the moment when she had briefly cared for him, and despite his inebriation, he had dismissed her upon waking up. Subsequently, they had exchanged pleasantries a few times with no physical contact.

Recalling the incident when Lance tried to fix her hair in the sunroom, Tara wondered if his recent behavior was an attempt to make amends for accidentally touching her chest. This explanation seemed more plausible than him developing an interest in her. As night fell, Tara retired to bed, anticipating a night filled with dreams. The following morning, as snow began to fall again, Lance heard a knock on his door. "Come in." With the door unlocked, a figure entered the room slowly.
Lance, clad in black silk pajamas, sat on the couch reading a book, while snowflakes drifted gently outside the floor-to-ceiling windows. Stella placed a glass of warm milk on his coffee table, saying, "Mr. Swain, here's the warm milk you requested." "Leave it," he replied without looking up. Stella lingered until Lance finally acknowledged her presence. "Is there anything else?" Feigning reluctance, Stella hinted at Tara's discomfort in delivering messages.
"If you have any requests in the future, feel free to inform me. Tara isn't too pleased about being the messenger." Seeking to provoke Lance, Stella successfully goaded him into summoning Tara. Resolved, Lance instructed, "Tell her to come to me." Satisfied with her accomplishment, Stella hurried to fetch Tara, who entered nervously with clammy hands. As Stella walked past her with a smug grin, Tara's thoughts raced. Standing before Lance, she watched as the door closed behind her.
