Chapter 49 After finishing dinner, Tara busied herself cleaning up the dining room. She didn't feel hungry, possibly due to all the cherries she had eaten earlier that evening. When she glanced up, she caught Lance's eye. It seemed like he had been quietly observing her for some time. Remembering his words from the day before, she quickly averted her gaze. His expression remained impassive, his eyes roaming over her.
Feeling uneasy under his scrutiny, Tara hastened to finish her tasks and left the dining room. Stella, who had been standing behind Lance, felt a sense of relief upon seeing Tara's departure. Observing Tara's nervousness, Stella concluded that Lance must have reprimanded her, or she wouldn't have avoided him. Tara's thoughts were in disarray once more.
As she walked through the hallway, Soren awaited her, hands in his pockets, looking slightly awkward as he addressed her, "I didn't mean to disturb you during dinner." Startled by his sudden interruption, Tara, still on edge, realized he was referring to her diligent work while he dined. She replied, "You need not worry, Mr. Farrell. I was just doing my job." Soren smirked, moving closer, noticing her shocked expression.

With a teasing tone, he remarked, "Why are you blushing so much?" Her cheeks reddened further, and she retreated to evade his proximity. "N-No reason," she stammered before swiftly leaving. Soren, aware she hadn't eaten yet, refrained from teasing her further. It wasn't Soren who flustered her; it was Lance. Tara sensed Lance wasn't merely testing her by his gaze. Though uncertain, she opted to steer clear of Lance for caution.
As Tara prepared to finish work and head back to her room, a tall figure approached, and she no longer felt fatigued after her meal. She paused briefly before resuming her journey. Upon passing each other, she greeted Lance curtly, "Hello, Mr. Swain." Lance halted, instructing, "Bring a glass of warm milk to my room tomorrow morning." Tara contemplated delegating the task to Stella but feared he might demand otherwise. Thus, she refrained from further discussion.
Uncertain of Lance's intentions, she pledged to evade him. "Understood, Mr. Swain." Before she could retreat, Lance seized her wrist. His touch felt cold, unlike Soren's warmth, startling Tara. Attempting to break free, she couldn't comprehend his actions. Lance maintained his hold, gazing at her intently before declaring, "I was serious yesterday." Tara, taken aback, faltered, "Y-You weren't... joking?" Just as Lance prepared to speak, Shawn intervened. "What's happening, Lance?" Shawn approached them, observing Lance grasping Tara's wrist.
